Meet Our Doulas
Jessica Poulsen
Birth Doula, Postpartum Doula, Herbalist, Childbirth Educator, Placenta Encapsulation Specialist
'Whatever way birth happens, it is your rite of passage into motherhood, and that passage is to be celebrated. Natural childbirth is a passage, cesarean birth is a passage, and birth with an epidural is a passage to be celebrated. That passage cannot be taken away from you. Every mother’s birth experience is valid, and an act of courage.”
My name is Jessica Poulsen and I am a mother of 1 energetic little boy and 1 sweet little girl. I am passionate about many things including breastfeeding, gentle and instinctual parenting, and empowering women to take charge of their bodies and their births.
I have been a CAPPA Certified Birth Doula for 4 years and have been an advocate of women's rights (especially in the sacred experience of birth) for as long as I can remember. I started my journey into the birth worker world after the birth of my son. I realized during my not-so-woman-centered birth that having more Doulas in the area was MUCH needed. I later went on to have the most healing and empowering birth experience 2 years later that even further instilled this passion and fire for birth within my soul. Every single woman deserves to feel the way I felt that day and as I Doula I make that my goal. Whatever your birth preferences are, YOU deserve to feel empowered and in the drivers seat.
I believe birth can be an enjoyable, transcending, life-changing, and empowering experience. I believe birth is a safe physiological event, not a medical emergency. I chose to become a doula to educate women about their options and aid in making their birth experience a positive one. Trusting a woman's intuition and allowing their choices of where and how to give birth should be encouraged and embraced.

My Birth Philosophy
I believe that every woman has the right to a fulfilling, positive, safe, and informed birth. I believe it is important for mother's (and partners) to educate themselves on pregnancy & childbirth. Whether it be classes or reading. It is important to educate yourself in order to advocate for yourself. I can be your support and your resource, but YOU have to make the decisions and be accountable for your birth experience. Hiring a Doula is a great start, but your birth experience is what you make it. A positive & fulfilling birth means something different for every woman. It doesn't matter to me whether you want to give birth in a hospital setting or home setting. Whether you want a medicated birth or unmedicated birth, on land or in a birthing pool. So long as you are well informed on your choices and have the opportunity to make the decisions based on what YOU feel is best for you and your baby. It is most important that you feel supported & respected in your choices. I want to assist you in achieving the birth you desire and the experience both you and your baby deserve. As your Doula, I will meet you & your family exactly where you're at. I am here to help guide you on how to think, not what to think! I can be your consistent source of support and walk beside you through the threshold of becoming a parent. It is my belief that when the healthcare team of professionals (Midwives, Doctors, Nurses, and Doulas) collaborate closely and when everyone is on the same page, the woman is then provided with the optimal experience. I will help maintain the belief that we are all working towards the same goal, a safe and fulfilling birth. "A healthy mom & baby is what matters," is important, but it isn't the ONLY thing that matters. It is a key life experience that a mother will look back on for the rest of her life. So if you don't know your options, you don't have any! The pregnant mother is a Goddess and deserves to be treated as one. I would feel honored to walk with you through your sacred and powerful experience.
